Causes And Types Of Impetigo Essay Essays

Causes And Types Of Impetigo Essay Essays Causes And Types Of Impetigo Essay Essay Causes And Types Of Impetigo Essay Essay The chief bacterial pathogen associated with impetigo is Staphylococcus aureus. which are Gram-positive bacteriums that are ubiquitously present in the environment ( Melles et al. . 2004 ) . Other instances of impetigo involve bacterial species. Staphylococcus pyogenes. which is besides known as group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus ( GABHS ) . One alone characteristic of impetigo is that it could happen as either a primary or secondary infection in an person. Secondary infection is frequently involved with its happening with a preexistent infection of the tegument. as exemplified by eczema and itchs ( Lizano et al. . 2007 ) . Impetigo can happen as one of two signifiers. viz. bullous and non-bullous. Majority of the impetigo instances are of the non-bullous signifier ( Koning et al. . 2003 ) . The bacteriums normally infect countries of the tegument that are often exposed to the environment. such as that of the face. every bit good as the weaponries and legs. Bullous impetigo by and large affects the facial and trunk parts of the organic structure. It is besides possible that the natess and perineum are infected with bacteriums. The blisters associated with bullous impetigo are by and large of a diameter of 3 centimetres. It has been suggested that immature kids are extremely susceptible to this type of skin infection because they often come in close contact with people. including that in the place and in the kid attention centres ( Beheshti and Ghotbi. 2007 ) . Other environmental conditions serve as extra hazards in geting impetigo. For illustration. persons who live or work in crowded conditions are more likely to develop this skin infection due to the close contact with other persons that may be transporting the bacterial pathogen. Warm temperatures and humidness can besides increase the likeliness of skin infections. as these are optimum conditions for bacteriums to boom in. It is besides possible to get the bacteriums through contact athleticss because of the close interaction with other participants and the presence of perspiration and heat during these activities. Impetigo may besides impact the aged. particularly if their immune system has weakened or their likeliness of lesion healing is hapless. such as that observed in diabetics. DIAGNOSIS OF IMPETIGO Impetigo is by and large diagnosed through the presence of symptoms such as herpes zosters. every bit good as cold sores on different countries of the organic structure. In add-on. a patient may besides demo marks of fungous infections in combination with eczema. In order to exactly find the type of impetigo in a patient. a differential diagnosing should be conducted. For non-bullous impetigo. symptoms such as herpes zosters. every bit good as cold sores. facilitate in doing an accurate diagnosing. Other symptoms for non-bullous impetigo include fungi-based skin infections. every bit good as eczema. In the instance of bullous impetigo. the presence of thermic Burnss. including blisters. find the precise type of impetigo. There may be cases when complications do happen. and these are associated with cellulitis. every bit good as blood poisoning. which are conditions that reflect the farther spreading of the infection to the other parts of the organic structure. It is besides possible to detect lymphangitis in a patient with bullous impetigo. Unfortunately. impetigo has besides recently been associated with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ( MRSA ) . a bacterial pestilence that has taken centre phase in the field of infective diseases ( Noguchi et al. . 2006 ) . It has been established that the transmittal of the infection is chiefly through direct contact with the tegument sore. The chief method for diagnosing is through taking swab samples of the skin countries that has been reported by the patient to be infected. The swab samples are analyzed in the research lab for the presence of Staphylococcus bacteriums. Unfortunately. the designation of the bacterium does non automatically decide whether the skin status is an existent infection or a colonisation event. The method of tissue sample aggregation besides influences the consequences of the diagnostic trial and therefore it is of import to exert cautiousness with respects to the methods of aggregation and analysis ( Yamasaki et al. . 2005 ) . It is besides of import to correlate the consequences of the diagnostic trial and the existent visual aspect of the skin lesions. Another step for precise diagnosing and intervention is to hold the patient checked once more after seven yearss of intervention. in order to find if the current medicine is so taking consequence or non. If the tegument lesions appear to be the same or minimally healed after seven to 14 yearss of intervention. so it is possible that the initial diagnosing is uncomplete or wrong. PATHOGENESIS OF IMPETIGO The initial pustules of impetigo appear on the face. with a concentration in the countries environing the oral cavity. every bit good as the olfactory organ. of the patient. It is besides possible to detect the first few pustules in countries that have been cut. scratched or bitten. as these countries are premier substrates for the generation of the bacterial pathogen ( Metts. 2002 ) . Impetigo is ab initio observed as a red-colored sore which ruptures within a few yearss ( Hanakawa et al. . 2002 ) . The fluid contents are released and a brown-colored crust develops above the country of the pustule. This skin disease is really contagious and the infection is easy spread to other parts of the organic structure by rubing and changeless contact with the sore itself. The tegument sores are by and large non associated with any hurting and therefore does non trouble oneself an single except for the sight of the ruddy sore on his tegument. In add-on. an single with impetigo does non demo any marks of febrility hence it is less likely that the person will be alarmed of the presence of a few sores on his tegument. However. the tegument sores multiply to other countries of the organic structure and bring forth dark-coloured crusts and by this clip. the single frequently contemplates on seeking medical attending. Unfortunately. by the clip the person is attended to by a doctor. he has already come in contact with a figure of other persons and the bacterial pathogen has already spread. The lesions associated with impetigo by and large mend within a few hebdomads. yet there may be complications linked to this infection that are deemed fatal. One of the serious complications of impetigo is acute nephritic failure. An person diagnosed with impetigo can really return to his day-to-day activities such as schooling or working if he has been on antibiotic intervention for at least 24 hours. TREATMENT OF IMPETIGO There are presently a figure of intervention options that are available for impetigo. The intervention formats range from unwritten capsules to clamber unctions. where the chief constituent of the medicine is an antibiotic ( Taylor. 2004 ) . However. it has been recommended that both formats be administered to a patient with impetigo. in order to to the full command the farther spread of the infection to the remainder of the organic structure. every bit good as to other persons ( Fleming et al. . 2007 ) . Despite the handiness of different intervention options. there is presently a argument on the most effectual method of handling this peculiar tegument infection ( George and Rubin. 2003 ) . Biomedical scientists are still contending on whether the unwritten path or the topical path of intervention is more efficient. yet evidence-based pattern indicates that topical unctions are every bit effectual as unwritten intervention of impetigo ( Koning et al. . 2002 ) . Other intervention options have emerged. such as those topical unctions that are supplemented with corticoids to rush the reaction. every bit good as antiseptic preparations that could be used as washing liquids. There are besides fresh unctions that have included aromas such as tea and ginger ( MacDonald. 2004 ) . It is besides of import to find the extent of the skin infection. in order to allow administer an effectual antibiotic intervention. In instances wherein impetigo is still restricting. it has been suggested that muciprocin can be administered as an effective therapy for impetigo ( Koning and van der Wouden. 2004 ) . However. patients with extended conditions of impetigo should be treated with antibiotics through the unwritten path ( Brown and Wise. 2003 ) . Oral medicines such as penicillin. every bit good as Mefoxins. are therefore considered as the appropriate drugs for intervention. Clinical probes have suggested that the most dependable method of finding if a intervention for impetigo has resulted in a clinical remedy is to find whether the patient is relieved of the symptoms after one hebdomad of curative intercession ( Brown and Wise. 2002 ) . Earlier perceptual experiences were that impetigo was a self-limiting infection and therefore the natural patterned advance of the infection would decidedly discontinue after an appropriate period of clip. However. it is still of import to handle a patient with impetigo since this skin disease is extremely contagious and therefore the necessary safeguards should be implemented to forestall its farther transmittal. The Technological Stimulus of the Industrial Revolution Essay

The Technological Stimulus of the Industrial Revolution - Essay Example The technology that continued to drive the Industrial Revolution came in the form of invention and innovation. Invention, and the implementation of the invention, was merely the first step in the process. It is estimated that the period of invention terminated in 1780 (McCloskey 251). All progress after that date was due to innovations on existing technology. Initially, the textile mills located their factories near sources of water that were needed to drive the water wheel technology. The introduction of the steam engine radically changed the economics of the textile industry. No longer forced to relocate workers to the site of the source of power, manufacturers were free to build factories at the population centers that provided a ready supply of cheap labor. Aside from solving the labor issue, steam power was not subject to the changes in weather and seasonal variations that water was. Water was subject to drought and in the attempt to make up for losses in the dry period, water driven mills were often forced to employ child labor during high productivity periods. The loss of this labor source reduced the value of water. Though the cost of water may have been competitive, it could never be a reach the production levels of steam. Without the introduction of the invention of steam, the textile industry could never have reached an economy of scale. ... However, there were some major differences in the economy of the production of iron. Iron experienced an unprecedented level of growth in production during the period of 1780-1860. However, it did not see an improvement in the productivity that was noted in textiles (McCloskey 251). While the cost of textiles fell dramatically during this period, the cost of iron fell less sharply. McCloskey has attributed this to the rising cost of inputs, mainly coal, that were required in the production of iron (251). The production level of iron was spurred by improved technology, but an influx of capital could not significantly raise the level of productivity. The inventions and innovations also aided the high levels of production and improved productivity during the Industrial Revolution in transportation. Transportation not only increased trade, but also facilitated the transport of local raw materials and finished goods. While McCloskey puts the value of transportation during this period at about 6% of the national income, it may have been a resource whose dynamic effect is difficult to calculate (258). The development of roads and waterways was reflected in the overall cost of transporting cloth from a remote mill to a commerce center. The eventual reduction in the cost of transportation through technological improvements would further raise the level of productivity. Transportation moved the finished goods and allowed for the importation of raw cheaper materials. Critics, however, have argued that the peripheral economic benefits of transportation, including the expansion of trade, amount to very little (McCloskey 258). However, even outside the textile sector, exports grew among almost all manufactured goods though they were

Post-modern Performing Art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words

Post-modern Performing Art - Essay Example One feature of recognizing dance as a performing art is recognizing its evanescence. Once we accept the transience of dance in this sense, we must still acknowledge its permanence: that the very same dance can be re-performed at some later date. But that fact itself must be explained. And if we want to understand the performing arts a little better here, it is first necessary to say something about the arts more generally. The critic writes an interpretation of a work of art—a poem, a painting or a dance. These interpretations are centrally, often exclusively, verbal in character, even when they are interpretations of dance or music. We call these ‘critic’s interpretations’. Second, there is the interpretation of the performer in a performing art. The performer is irrelevant to what the work of art (in a performing art) means, although my earlier remarks may have tended in that direction. It is not as though something that could be interpreted by the critic is instead interpreted by the performer. Rather, whenever the critic confronts the work of art itself (rather than the score, say) he necessarily confronts something already interpreted by some performer, if this is a work in a performing art. Works in the performing arts come, as we have seen, with a label reading ‘And now perform it’. The content of such a label is always relevant to the meaning of such-and-such a work of art. For only in performance is a token of that type-work available for criticism. The performer’s interpretation does not really.... But that fact itself must be explained. For one cannot confront the work of art except in this 'interpreted' form. So speaking of the dance/language analogy, and of the linguistic character of our understanding, emphasizes that the place at which the meanings of dances are most readily located is in discussions of those dances, that is to say, in the linguistic element which is

Roman Stoic Philosophy Essay Example for Free

Roman Stoic Philosophy Essay Stoic Philosophy What is Stoic Philosophy? Stoic Philosophy is the school of philosophy founded by Zeno, who asserted that men should be free from passion. Roman Stoic Philosophy was a big part of the roman everyday life. Some major parts of Stoic Philosophy are how it started, the ethics, what the stoics viewed philosophy as, the most famous stoics and what stoicism is. â€Å"The philosophy of stoicism was started in Hellenistic Athens, by Zeno of Citum, who had been trained in the philosophy of the cynics, and spread to Rome where it was embraced by many Romans, including the Republican throne in Julius Caesar’s side, Cato the Younger. (Stoicism-Greek philosophy of the stoics) The Romans adopted the Greeks Gods and their philosophy. The Romans culture had a heavy Greek influence in it. The Romans made stoicism their philosophy. The stoic’s ethics set them apart from other philosophers; they believed you needed to live in agreement with nature to be a happy person. â€Å"The stoics claim that whatever is good must benefit its possessor under all circumstances. † (Stoicism) The Romans used the ethics of the famous Greek philosopher, Aristotle, to form their ethics. Aristotle’s ethics provides the form for the adumbration of the ethical teaching of the Hellenistic schools. † (Stoicism) Aristotle was a famous scientific philosopher who learned from another famous stoic Plato, he learned from Socrates who was the first great Greek philosopher. The stoics believed that philosophy was a way of life; they found themselves superior to the other citizens. â€Å"They think of philosophy not as an interesting pastime of even a particular body of knowledge, but as a way of life. (Stoicism) The stoics took their work extremely seriously; they helped in several other fields such as astronomy an d the art of healing. The Romans thought very highly of the stoics. Some of the most famous stoics are well recognized people to anyone who has a basic understanding of philosophy. Two of the best known Roman Stoics were â€Å"Epictetus, a slave, and Marcus Aurelius, an emperor. † (Stoicism, the philosophy of Rome) Then you would obviously have to add the creator of stoicism, Zeno of Citium. Stoicism is basically an indifference to pain and pleasure. â€Å"Stoicism was one of the new philosophical movements of the Hellenistic period. † (Stoicism) The stoics were all about studying mans nature, why they do what they do. â€Å"The best stoics of all time cared much for human nature and human freedom. They studied men, and found man’s nature to be essentially rational. † (Philosophy-Stoicism) As was earlier stated; they believe you must live in agreement with nature to be happy. You must remain poised in any situation that you might have come in your life. As you can see Roman Stoic Philosophy was a big part of Roman life and is studied by many people who enjoy the study of philosophy, its one of the more well recognized types of philosophies due to its tie with the Roman Republic. The views the stoics had and their ethics were like no other philosophers before them. Stoicism was derived from one of the most well known philosophers of all time, Aristotle. Native American Rights, Federal Government Plenary Power and Land Takin

Native American Rights, Federal Government Plenary Power and Land Takings Abstract Native Americans are entitled to the same Constitutional protections that guard other citizens from federal government infringement. Plenary power and the accompanying seizure and use of indigenous land bases have violated the rights of Native Americans and demonstrated the inability of the federal government to manage Indian affairs. The United States should give ownership and control of original, non-privately owned land bases back to tribes. This course of action would end treaty violation, compensate tribes for land takings, prevent bureaucrats from implementing policies that obstruct the ability of Native Americans to participate in their religion, and prevent the serious cultural loss that may occur if the government continues to use Native American land for self-interested purposes. Although the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 formally made Native Americans United States citizens, Native Americans currently lack the legal protection that guards other citizens from federal domination (Custo and Henry X). The core democratic concepts of "fairness, justice, and consent of the governed" have not yet been fully realized for tribal people, despite their citizenship (Wilkins 20). As stated by Helen Hunt Jackson, a noted author and social reformer, treatment of Native Americans has "outraged principles of justice" (Custo and Henry 40). Native Americans, "wards" of the federal government, are locked "in a grossly inequitable, politically dependent relationship," in which governmental infringement and injustice are the norm. Morality and Lagoon Literary Essay

The Lagoon is a story about a man who visits an old friend; they had been fighting in a war and became good friends since then. Nevertheless, a long time had passed without knowing much about each other, and these friends have a lot to talk about. The consequences of a selfish decision seem to doom the life of a man who suffers pangs of conscience. A story written by Joseph Conrad, who is considered one of the greatest novelists of the English Literature, shows how vulnerable and unstable the human morality can be. What sort of desire would make a man betray his own brother? The selfish desire of a man who pursued love, happiness and peace with her beloved woman would be one of the answers. â€Å"There is a time when a man should forget loyalty and respect. Might and authority are given to rulers, but to all men is given love and strength and courage†. (Page 8) The strong love he felt for her, made him to go beyond the limits. His beloved brother supported him; he bravely became selflessly involved in his brother ´s love venture for they had always been very loyal to each other since they were children. Therefore, selfishness and cowardice were stronger than brotherhood. Arsat was so focused on escaping with his woman that he seemed to forgot how much he loved his brother, he did not noticed it, he was risking his life and also the others ´. â€Å"There is half a man in you now – the other half is in that woman. I can wait. When you are a whole man again, you will come back with me here to shout defiance. We are sons of the same mother†. (Page 9) But these words seemed to have been ignored by him, because what he seemed to have had in his mind was not love really, but obsession. â€Å"I longed to be with her in a safe place beyond the reach of men’s anger and of women’s spite. My love was so great, that I thought it could guide me to a country where death was unknown, if I could only escape from Inchi Midah’s spite and from our Ruler’s sword†. (Page 9) Thus, his obsessed mind led him to the despicable betrayal of his brother who loved him. When the plan was being executed by the three of them, the situation turns out really bad. His brother was about to be caught by the guards and the weak loyalty he had for his brother in that moment of doubt and fear, was influenced by his selfish obsession which encouraged him to push the canoe and scape without his brother. His brother was left to his fate in spite of the desperate shouts he cried. â€Å"! I am coming! The men were close to him. I looked. Many men. Then I looked at her. Tuan, I pushed the canoe! [†¦]I heard him cry my name twice; I never turned back†. (Page 10) He could bear all those years without thinking on what he had done to his brother because of his woman, but she was about to die and now he seems to be dying too. The day he betrayed his brother, seemed to have doomed the rest of his life and certainly it did. His woman was suffering of a strange disease and died. He desperately tried to recover her but his efforts were useless. And the past comes back to his mind every moment. Although he hopes to find his road to follow, he may not escape from his conscience, a nightmare he will have to face till the day of his death.

Facebook Manic Essay

Facebook is a social networking service launched in February 4, 2004, owned and operated by Facebook, Incorporated. The name of the service stems from the colloquial name for the book given to students at the start of the academic year by some university administrations in the United States to help students get to know each other. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students Eduardo Saverin (business aspects), Andrew McCollum, (graphic artist), Dustin Moskovitz (programmer), and Chris Hughes. According to The Harvard Crimson, the site was comparable to â€Å"Hot or Not† and used photos compiled from the online facebooks of nine houses, placing two next to each other at a time and asking users to choose the ‘hotter’ person. The website’s membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford University. It gradually added support for students at various other universities before opening to high school students, and eventually to anyone aged 13 and over. Facebook has affected the social life and activity of people in various ways. With its availability on many mobile devices. Facebook allows users to continuously stay in touch with friends, relatives and other acquaintances wherever they are in the world, as long as there is access to the Internet. It can also unite people with common interests and/or beliefs through groups and other pages, and has been known to reunite lost family members and friends because of the widespread reach of its network. January 2009 Compete.com study ranked Facebook as the most used social networking service by worldwide monthly active users. Quantcast estimates Facebook has 138.9 million monthly unique U.S. visitors in May 2011. According to Social Media Today, in April 2010 an estimated 41.6% of the U.S. population had a Facebook account. Facebook has turned into a national obsession in the United States, resulting in vast amounts of time lost and encouraging narcissism. Facebook being one of the most famous social networking site comes with it’s own pros and cons. There are many disadvantages of using facebook. Many people believe that  facebook has a lot of advantages and is convenient to use. But they ignore all the disadvantages that come with it. Sarbanes-Oxley Act essays

Sarbanes-Oxley Act essays The fraudulent misrepresentations of several public companies financial positions have recently been brought into the public eye. The large bankruptcy of WorldCom and the similar conspiracies at Enron and HealthSouth made it clear that something had to be done to avoid such schemes. These scams were not only deceiving trusting investors, but also harming the good names of accountants everywhere. In an effort to prevent such occurrences, the Securities and Exchange Commission formed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. This legislation alone has completely transformed the U.S. security regulations (New Financial Rules 2004, 1). The Sarbanes-Oxley Acts objective is to strengthen public companies guidelines for financial reporting, internal controls, and auditing standards. In doing so, fraudulent activities will be caught regularly and future scams can possibly be deterred. The Sarbanes-Oxley act ultimately places more accountability on CEOs, CFOs, audit committees, and also independent auditors. It entails the verification that each company has satisfactory internal controls and that guidelines for financial reporting are established. All in all, the act aims to ensure near accuracy in reporting of financial statements (New Financial Rules 2004, 1). Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act is a main focus for many organizations. It calls for the yearly report of a corporation to include (1) a statement from management testifying to their answerability as to having a satisfactory internal control system and bylaws for financial reporting; and (2) managements year end assessment of the internal control and financial reporting procedures. A companys auditor is also required to evaluate and attest to the assessment mention previously. Compliance with Section 404 is a main concern of many businesses, because it is this compliance that will be extremely costly (New Finan...

The Difference Between Appositives and Descriptions

The Difference Between Appositives and Descriptions The Difference Between Appositives and Descriptions The Difference Between Appositives and Descriptions By Mark Nichol It is important for writers to distinguish between appositives and mere descriptions. A noun is said to be in apposition when it is set off from another noun that refers to the same idea. The phrase â€Å"set off† is significant, because a pair of commas separate the parenthetical apposition from its referent noun by a pair of commas. A description, however, needs no such bracketing. For example, take a look at this sentence: â€Å"Here’s what the CEO of Chrysler Sergio Marchionne said to his employees in a blog post.† â€Å"The CEO of Chrysler† and â€Å"Sergio Marchionne† are one and the same appositive so one or the other needs to be framed by commas. This can be accomplished in one of several ways: â€Å"Here’s what the CEO of Chrysler, Sergio Marchionne, said to his employees in a blog post.† â€Å"Here’s what Sergio Marchionne, (the) CEO of Chrysler, said to his employees in a blog post.† (The optional the is often omitted in journalistic contexts and retained in more formal writing.) â€Å"Here’s what Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler’s CEO, said to his employees in a blog post.† (This is a less formal variant of the previous two options.) A description, meanwhile, such as the job title in this case, is followed directly by the name without intervening punctuation, and no comma should follow the name, either: â€Å"Here’s what Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said to his employees in a blog post.† The first sentence in each of the following pairs appeared in a printed or online publication with commas framing the name as if it was an appositive an error, and a distressingly common one. But notice below the differences between the statements labeled â€Å"Description† and the ones marked as â€Å"Apposition.† In a description, both the descriptive phrase and the name it applies to are essential; without either one, the sentence is incomplete. However, an apposition, being parenthetical, can be omitted without altering the integrity of the sentence. Description: â€Å"Ex-reservist and current war gamer Mike Brown admits his battle tactics may be a bit too aggressive for a real-life situation.† Apposition: â€Å"Mike Brown, an ex-reservist and current war gamer, admits his battle tactics may be a bit too aggressive for a real-life situation.† Description: â€Å"Kitchen queen Nigella Lawson comes to town, shops, chops, cooks, and raves about our produce.† Apposition: â€Å"Nigella Lawson, the kitchen queen, comes to town, shops, chops, cooks, and raves about our produce.† Description: â€Å"Conservative radio jock Michael Savage gets his own TV show.† Apposition: â€Å"A conservative radio jock, Michael Savage, gets his own TV show.† (The person’s name can come first, as in the previous examples, without a change in meaning, though the focus changes.) Description: â€Å"The San Francisco–based schooner C.A. Thayer begins a $9.6 million overhaul.† Apposition: â€Å"The C.A. Thayer, a San Francisco–based schooner, begins a $9.6 million overhaul.† (If the schooner has already been referenced generically, the sentence should read something like this: â€Å"The San Francisco–based schooner, the C.A. Thayer, begins a $9.6 million overhaul.†) Description: â€Å"The Emeryville studio Pixar hopes to cash in on its fish flick.† Apposition: â€Å"The Emeryville studio, Pixar, hopes to cash in on its fish flick.† (If two or more studios, each located in a different city, were previously mentioned, this sentence is correct. Otherwise, something like â€Å"Pixar, the Emeryville studio, hopes to cash in on its fish flick† would be appropriate.) Description: â€Å"Bryan Young is editor of the blog Big Shiny Robot.† Apposition: â€Å"Bryan Young is editor of the blog, Big Shiny Robot.† (The comma is necessary to indicate that the blog was already mentioned, but not by name. If not, the comma signals, fallaciously, that Big Shiny Robot is the only blog in existence.) Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? To what extent does the 'cosmological' argument establish the Essay

To what extent does the 'cosmological' argument establish the existence of God - Essay Example 1. Thomas Aquinas adapted Aristotle and Avicenna’s thinking to form his cosmological argument in which he states that the universe is the result of a ‘first cause’ that is itself uncaused, and this ultimate cause according to him, is God. The premise of his argument basically states that every thing that was once non existent has a cause. Since, according to the second premise –something that is finite and dependent (contingent) cannot create itself. In his third premise Aquinas stated that a causal chain cannot stretch back into eternity. This is why Aquinas argues --there must be a first cause-(God)-or there must be something that is not an effect. Other cosmological veterans speculating about God’s existence - (like Aquinas) take the ‘first cause’ to be ‘God’. Aquinas’s argument is based on the fact that God has to exist due to the fact that the universe needs a cause to explain its existence. This cause is furnish ed by the concept of the creation of the universe by a supernatural being outside it, and this being is assumed to be God. Aquinas’s cosmological argument is based on Aristotle’s belief in a ‘first cause It was Aquinas who interpreted Aristotle’s uncaused cause as ‘God’ by modifying his deistic view into a theistic one. According to his cosmological argument, every event has a cause; but every cause has been caused by another. To avoid endless regression, we have to postulate an uncaused and eternal first cause –(or necessary being that created itself)-and that is God. Aquinas wrote, In his book, ‘The Governance of the World’ Aquinas propounds five ways- of proving the existence of God. In the process Aquinas argues for the presence of a benevolent order in the universe that makes even unintelligent entities work towards some goal. On the basis of these phenomenon, Aquinas argues in favour of the existence that is an essential part of

Nursing Informatics Telehealth and Graves and Corcorans Term Paper

Nursing Informatics Telehealth and Graves and Corcorans Data-Information-Knowledge - Term Paper Example According to the research findings Tone quoted Graves and Corcoran to have said that nursing informatics is â€Å"a combination of computer science, information science, and nursing science designed to assist in the management and processing of nursing data, information and knowledge to support the practice of nursing and the delivery of patient care.† In turn, nursing informatics is part of healthcare informatics that Guenther had reported to have been defined by Saba and McCormick as â€Å"the integration of health sciences, computer science, information science, and cognitive science to assist in the management of health care information.† The striking similarity of the definitions between nursing informatics and health informatics should not be a surprise. It is highly likely that Graves and Corcoran have influenced the entire field of healthcare informatics as health care informatics may have influenced Graves and Corcoran. However, Guenther reported that medical i nformatics is a term that have been in used since the mid-70s and had referred to â€Å"information technologies that concern patient care and the medical decision-making process.† Further, Guenther reported that the term nursing informatics â€Å"was not seen in the literature until 1984† even if Guenther reported that nurses have been working on nursing informatics for more than twenty-five years as of 2006. It is not clear from Guenther who started the term nursing informatics in 1984. ... oles and Barber (1980), nursing informatics has been in used even before 1980 and, thus, Guenther (2006) may be wrong on the view that nursing informatics â€Å"was not seen in the literature since 1984.† Further, according to Thede (2010) based on the work of Sackett and Erdley, the term â€Å"informatics† was coined in 1966 but Scholes and Barber (1980) was probably the first to use the term â€Å"nursing informatics†. The work of Staggers and Thomson (2002) and Guenther (2006) are highly informative on the literature of nursing informatics as well as on how our notion of nursing informatics has evolved over the years. Staggers and Thomson (2002) emphasized the need for a definition of nursing informatics even if by that time, the American Nursing Association has already adopted a definition of nursing informatics in 2001. At minimum, the Staggers and Thomson (2002) expression of a need for a definition of nursing informatics probably indicated a discontent for the prevailing notion of nursing informatics in 2002. As Staggers and Thomson (2002, p. 255) themselves pointed out, â€Å"a definition is a fundamental element for shaping a specialty.† Staggers and Thomson (2006, p. 255) continued that â€Å"a definition for nursing informatics guides role delineation for nurses interested in informatics and suggests directions for practice, education, training, and research.† Further, a definition of nursing informatics â€Å"may be useful to other disciplines as they define informatics practice within their own specialties† (Staggers and Thomson, 2002, p. 256). Staggers and Thomson also emphasized that â€Å"a definition for nursing informatics is needed to help others, within and outside nursing, understand the legitimacy of the practice and the general competencies of a nurse who
